Mya's trip to Primary Children's Hospital

At just over two weeks, we had to spent a night at Primary Children's Hospital.  It all began at her normal two week check up at the pediatrician's office.  A few days before, we noticed that she was twitching pretty badly in her sleep. (It had only happened two times, not every time she slept)  So we thought we'd bring it up to the Dr. to see what he thought.  At the appointment, she had to get her PKU done, and she was sad so I rocked her to sleep.  Right then, she started twitching again when the Dr. came in.  I had him look at her.  He tried to put pressure on her to get her to calm down, but nothing seemed to work.  She continued for 1-2 mins. With her being so small, it worried him.  He said he thought it was Myoclonus, but that because she was so young, he recommended and EEG.  He just wanted to make sure that it wasn't related to seizures.
After we left the appointment we called to schedule and out patient EEG.  However, Primary Children's, due to her being so little, would not let us schedule an appointment.  They said her pediatrician had to call the Neurologist and chat about her situation to see if they'd let us do an out patient visit.  We got the phone call a few hours later saying that they decided she needed to be checked in, and they had a bed ready at 3:00 PM that day.  I seriously went into shock, thinking that they must not be telling me something, that this was worse than I thought. I was super emotional.
When we got to Primary's they hooked her all up.  The poor girl, hated being up to all of the machines.  She had a very hard time sleeping and getting comfortable.  It just wasn't like her.  It was sad.  They had to unwrap her and check her every four hours.  She hated it.  There were teams of doctors and residents who came and saw her and with all of the information they were gathering, they suspected that it was Myoclonus. Which, we all were hoping for.  But I couldn't help but feel weird to be checked into the hospital for such a mild thing, that she would grow out of.  But with all they were saying, they said it's better to know now, then we don't have to worry.
In the morning, we went down for her EEG.  That was so sad!! (I didn't have my camera, so I wasn't able to get a picture) If any of you know, they have to glue wires to their head and then tape it on after that, and then wrap it up, on top of that!  She luckily slept through the whole thing, and Neil was there with me, thank goodness!  The WORST part was when they had to rip the wires off of her head!! It was AWFUL! The poor girl was screaming and screaming.  That image will forever be in my head.
Afterwards, the nurse was kind enough to give her a nice warm bath.  They put dish soap on their head because they say that's the best way to get the glue off.  She loved her bath!  Now came the wait time.  We just now had to wait to see what the EEG had found out. We were waiting on the Neurology team.  Hours later they came in and thank goodness it was great news!
Mya had Benign Neonatal Sleep Myoclonus.  This is just like when you fall asleep and you jump or twitch, we've all done it before!  But her nervous system is still developing and it is something that she'll grow out of.  We were so grateful to hear the news.  Although it was an expensive trip and a very stressful one, we're glad to know that our sweet Mya is doing great and her brain waves show no signs of seizure activity.

Her first bath, EmmaLee loved helping!

Drying off, nice and warm now

Time to bring her home!

We only stayed at the hospital for just over 24 hours.  We were both healthy so we got to go home!

Trying to get a good picture at home, but she wasn't having it.  Why? Because she wanted to eat!

Tough Mudders

Jeff, Nate, Neil Erica
 Tough Mudder's 2012!
So this is a CrAzY race/challenge.  It's over 11 miles long with 21 InSaNe obstacles.  All of which are in the mud.  Combined with electrical shock, freezing ice baths, log carries, any many other things that not only test your physical fitness, but your mental ability to keep moving on, completing challenge after challenge while you're Freezing cold!  I mean freezing! Sounds fun, right?

As time went on and the hours past, the dirtier and colder they got!
Yay, it's over!
I have to say, I was really impressed with Neil and how mentally strong he stayed with being the coldest he's ever been.  He pushed through every challenge and never gave up.  It's pretty insane that we paid money for this kind of torture!  Not sure if this is an event we'll ever want to do again, but we'll see.  I just have to say I Love that man!
Time for a HOT shower!
Congratulations!  They seriously did amazing!  And... I have to give a shout out to the wives, Jill, Alyson and I who endured the cold and wind while watching this five hour event with not a chair to sit in, carrying all of our boys' things, taking pictures... and with me being 9 months pregnant.  Now that's love!

Vikingman!

Neil and some friends from work decided to to a triathlon together.  They assigned Neil to the swimming, so throughout the summer, he trained at good old Seven Peaks in the wave pool!  Funny that he had to train there but it was a good place to hang out as a family!  So I guess you can say he didn't get too much training in, but he's a great swimmer!  Above:  This is Neil in the hotel trying out his wet suit... Yeah, you're thinking right... He walked down to the hotel swimming pool with that on and went swimming with all of the other family and kids staring and laughing at him!! He's too cute, I love the guy!
Paul (Runner) Neil (Swimmer) Doug (Bike)
Neil is in the bright yellow cap, this is him just getting out of the Snake River after more than a mile swim. He finished his swim super fast, being in the top 5 to finish!
They had to run up the ramp to switch their timing chip to the next person.
Neil is laying on the ground exhausted, while Doug is getting ready for his ride.
And unfortunately there was a small crash!
Doug was amazing, even though he crashed, he rode another 30 plus miles to finish so that Paul could finish the race.  After the race, Doug went to the hospital for stitches.

But over all the boys did amazing and had a great time!

Yeah, I Cried. . .

Carter went to preschool today, and you'd think I'd have a picture, but not with Carter.  That would have made him more embarrassed or sad, so I stayed far away from that one!
I had to take him to the doctor before his preschool, and the Doctor basically diagnosed him with Asthma. Which we've been assuming for a few years now,
But that was really hard to hear.
There is a chance of him growing out of it, so I'll keep my hopes up.  The doctor said, he thinks that it will mostly be Exercise Asthma as he grows up.  Which made it even more sad to hear because he LOVES sports so much, I hope that it won't interfere too much.
I decided to take him to lunch because there wasn't enough time to go home and make it to preschool.  We had the best time just him and I chatting over a happy meal.
 What a sweetheart.
Then on the way to preschool, he asked me if I was going to drop him off.  He immediately cried and didn't want to go thinking of how scary it would be to have to go to school without Mom or EmmaLee.
It made me sad, because it is such a scary thing, but we talked about how he has to go to preschool and he has a choice to be happy there or sad there.  So I would hope that he would choose to be happy.  He agreed, but still fighting me a little bit. When I dropped him off at school, he was very hesitant.  And of course cried!
It's a good thing I had sunglasses on because I told him I loved him and cried too!

Geez, I love my kids so much, why do they have to grow up and go to school!?
